The Eyes of Freedom (EOF) traveling memorial will be in Anchorage from 18-28 July 2024. This traveling memorial has been to 34+ States since 2008 and Alaska will be its 37th State.  With one of our own Alaska natives, LCPL Grant Fraser, we have been given the opportunity to honor a fallen Anchorage hero as one of the 22 Marines and the 1 Navy Corpsman who were killed in action in Iraq between May and Aug of 2005.
The Eyes of Freedom memorial, https://www.EyesOfFreedom.org includes portraits of the fallen from Lima Company along with the sculpture "Silent Battle" created by artist, Anita Miller after her consultants witnessed the struggles of returning combat veterans coping with post-traumatic stress and the loss of their brothers and sisters in combat and at home. Survivor guilt, grief, and trauma often run deeper than the words and "Silent Battle" initiates the tough conversations "by speaking openly about mental health, PTS, anxiety, depression, and other invisible wounds". Only then can "we can break the stigma and create an environment where healing can flourish".  All visitors are encouraged to touch "Silent Battle" and potentially take a step towards their healing.  I am asking for your support both monetarily if your organization or individuals are able and to publicize the events through your many channels. Donations are available on-line or send snail mail to the attached address; any help will be appreciated. Lastly, please encourage all your members to come see the Eyes of Freedom memorial at one of the venues: JBER Open House 20-21 July, Service High School Auditorium 22-24 July, and UAA Alaska's Airline Center 25-28 July. I hope the attachments and the website aid in your support. If you have any questions, please call me or the Executive Director of EOF, Kelly Jones-Swenson, at 614-804-0928 or eyesoffreedomed@gmail.com. Thank you for your consideration.
