Chaplains are available to provide pastoral care and counsel and when necessary to help veterans and their families find appropriate resources for dealing with such issues as post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, or other critical incident stress management problems.


The qualifications for a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Chaplain are straightforward and do not necessarily require formal academic or ecclesiastical credentials.  Here are the essential qualifications:

Willingness to Serve:  A VFW Chaplain candidate should have a genuine desire to serve in this role. This willingness to support fellow veterans and their families is crucial.

Spiritual Maturity:  While not necessarily a professional clergy person, a VFW Chaplain should possess a sense of spiritual maturity This means having a compassionate and empathetic approach to providing spiritual care.

Commitment:  A commitment to fulfilling the duties of a chaplain is essential.  Whether it’s offering prayers, providing counsel, or being a spiritual advisor, dedication to the role is paramount.
